SHARKA BOSAKOVA
One of my earliest memories is being in the pram, looking up at the leaves above me, astounded by their structure, movement and beauty.
At 3 years old I was found cutting an umbrella into the shape of a dress.
At 4 I requested my parents bake an antler in the oven for me.
You can learn more about my art practice here.
My first dress was an umbrella.
I completed qualifications in Pre-School Special Education and Art Therapy followed by a bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design at the University of Liberec and master’s degree in Scenography/Set and Costume Design at the Janacek Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, Czech Republic.
Inspired by my interest in anthropology and transition rituals and indigenous mythology and stories, I moved to Australia. I pursued additional studies at QUT in Brisbane and graduating with a master’s degree in Creative Industries and undertook a course in Jewellery and Small Objects at Griffith University.
My work spans multiple realms and lends itself to interdisciplinary interactions across media, art forms and publics; creating sustainable cultural and artistic environments, taking inspiration from nature in discussion with latest technology to create present response.’
The merging of European classic influences with the ancient and rustic landscapes of Australia forms the foundation of my practice. Creating wearable experiences, installations, and objects to communicate and connect with people, places and art forms, opening meaningful dialogue.
I believe objects – touch – body – experience and visual storytelling can transcend languages.
